The Port Pirie Regional Council is a local government area in South Australia, focused on the city of Port Pirie. It has a population of about 22,000 people. The council's administrative facilities and works depot can be found in Port Pirie. Other rural towns such as Crystal Brook, Redhill, Napperby, Nelshaby and Koolunga lie in the council district. Most towns in the district are only about 2 hours from Adelaide and can all be easily accessed by the A1 National Highway. Geoff Brock was the Mayor prior to his election to state parliament in a state by-election held on 17 January 2009. Brenton Vanstone was subsequently elected to the Mayoral position and ultimately defeated by John Rohde in November 2014.
